George Martell

George Martell

George Martell, photojournalist, has used his passion for visual storytelling for nearly four decades. His career started with smaller regional newspapers and soon led to a staff position at the Boston Herald for close to twenty years. During those years, he photographed the homeless on the street, sports, the everyday feature, presidential vacations on Martha's Vineyard as well as being the first photojournalist from Boston to be on scene to cover the tragedy of 9/11 as it unfolded.

While at the Boston Herald, he was voted president of the Boston Press Photographer’s Association (the oldest Press Photographers Association in the country) by his peers. After leaving the Herald, he was asked to join the Advancement Team at the Archdiocese of Boston and to also become the photographer for Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley where his responsibility was to document the faith in action of nearly 2 million Catholics in Boston both thru still images and video both locally and worldwide. He traveled with Cardinal Seán to many of the World Youth Day celebrations attended by youth from around the world.

For the past three years he has worked exclusively with the Catholic School Offices in both Boston and Providence RI, traveling to their schools and documenting the relationships between student and teacher as well as the Catholic faith passed on to each student.

My heart belongs to the gift God has given me, which is the ability to see and capture a decisive moment in time for all to treasure. Whether it makes you laugh, cry, or stop and think, my goal is to help you remember those moments captured through my camera lens. He is currently an active parishioner at Saint Juan Del Rio Parish in Saint Augustine, Florida.
