Maréa Butrico brings her passion for strengthening Catholic schools, dioceses, orders, and apostolates out of deep love for Christ and His Church to Partners in Mission.
Maréa comes to Partners in Mission from Cathedral High School in New York City, where she served as Senior Director of Advancement and Alumnae Relations. At Cathedral, Maréa worked with the President to launch the school’s first ever campaign of $21M, move the school building, and weather a tumultuous principal leadership change, all while increasing the Annual Fund, growing our Board of Trustees, and reinvigorating the Catholic identity of the school. Maréa has gained extensive experience in crisis management and communications strategy. Maréa partnered with the President in securing campaign commitments of $250k-$500k from longtime lapsed and first-time donors, and increased funding from institutional donors by over $1M in one year. She also gained extensive experience in Board Management and Board Transformation, as she supported the President in bringing the Board back into conformance with its bylaws. Maréa’s experience at Cathedral set ablaze her passion for supporting Catholic schools in achieving academic excellence and authentic formation while ensuring both financial sustainability and accessibility.
Prior to Cathedral, Maréa served on the Development team at the Archdiocese of New York, where her financial background, Catholic faith, strategic mindset, and love of service aligned perfectly with her role in Advancement. Maréa served the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal first as a Campaign Manager and was quickly promoted to a Senior Campaign Manager, a role in which she mentored her colleagues on best practices for communications, donor relations, managing relationships with parishes. Maréa increased Annual Appeal support in the parishes under her portfolio by 25% in just one year, helping them reach cumulatively 118% of goal; and increased total dollars pledged to the Appeal by 92%. Maréa was also responsible for writing the Cardinal’s Annual Appeal Solicitation letters and emails in the voice of the Cardinal Archbishop and pastors for Archdiocesan and Parish distribution.
Maréa started her career at the Central Bank of Ireland in Dublin in Financial Supervision, where she reviewed quarterly reports and capital holdings of the portfolio of Stockbroking and Wealth Management firms under her supervision and interviewed COOs, CFOs, and Chief Compliance Officers to understand the inner workings of each firm. Maréa then moved back to New York to take on a new challenge: teaching Math in an underserved Bronx middle school, it was there that she fell in love with mission-driven work that has a direct impact, as well as the strategic thinking required to adapt to students’ needs.
Maréa holds a B.A. in Economics and Honors History from the University of Notre Dame and an M.A. in Catholic Theology from St. Joseph’s Seminary and College. She serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Don Bosco Community Center in Port Chester, NY and is active in her community in the Catskills where she has grown up spending summers. Maréa enjoys downhill skiing, backpacking, swimming, classic novels and biographies. She and her husband Enzo live in Jersey City and are parishioners at Holy Rosary Church. Maréa and her husband’s respective Irish and Italian roots strongly tie them to two countries and cultures steeped in Catholicism.
